GIUILA CENCI

SECONDARY FOREST

Volume 13 and it is a beautiful week in NYC. Sometimes it is easy to forget how this city is more than a concrete jungle and for that I am excited to talk about an arresting art piece on the High Line!

So many awesome places in NYC get bombarded by the tourists and really kill the vibe for the locals. But all that being said, the High Line is a treat. For me I feel totally transported being above the streets and strolling threw a lush landscape of nature and architecture. Don't go if you don't have time to walk slow. But do go if you need a nearby escape, want to immerse yourself in foliage, and get to see some cool art installations.

secondary forest by Giulia Cenci nestles amongst the wooded area. It both stands out and blends in with its surroundings. The aluminum casted sculptures are akin to tree branches with its organic forms and knots. On the ends of each spear is a face, some human, some canine. The industrial forms spew from the ground much like a tree itself -- making a simultaneous connection and disconnection to nature. There is a movement happening as if it is about to blow away or as if it is a fleeting thought on display. The piece feels dynamic and whether you like looking at it or not, you will definitely stop to take it in.

Cenci's piece is a nod to the area of the Meatpacking District where the High Line starts off. The meat industry so influential in that neighborhood of Manhattan it still holds that name. And when I read more about secondary forest, I learned it is a botanical term referring to a forested area regenerating after a period of human disturbances. To me this is exactly what the High Line is all about. Without judgement, the work lets us reflect on that notion. What does our impact do to nature and how are we affecting the circle of life. While that may leave you feeling unsettled, I think with work like this there is hope that we will continue to create secondary forests.

With a crispness to the air I so happily wore a long sleeve shirt today. The Pohang Top is inspired by the much adored Salvador Top. Featuring our signature ballet scoop front neckline, cut in our heavy rib knit, with extra long sleeves for attitude because we love a subtle vibe. Paired with the Patna Skirt, we have Collection 2 details like our asymmetrical hem and double front zipper opening. Sewn in our cotton viscose blend shirting, the soft drape and dry hand is ideal for summer.

With my hair up it's all about the earrings. I have a several ear piercings and they are asymmetrical so its fun to mix and match sets. I did a big chunky necklace that felt balanced with the ballet scoop front neckline. I love this platform mid-calf lace-up boot to toughen everything up. Of course used the Paris Bag and sunnies!

Giulia Cenci Secondary Forest, go check it out and let me know what you think.
